This church was founded in the 6th century by the Irish saint, St. Machan. Nothing remained of that church and the current ruins are from the 11th century, built over the grave of St. Machan. The church fell out of use in the 19th century and little of the rebuilt church remains. The church is now a ruin. Only a gable, part of the north wall and the footings of the south wall remain.
