Changing Places toilets are larger facilities that have the necessary equipment, including an adult sized changing bench and tracking or mobile hoist, designed to provide sanitary accommodation for people with multiple and complex disabilities who have one or two assistants with them. They help to enable disabled people to live a more fulfilling life, and allow them to use spaces and places previously inaccessible to them.

Equipment found in Changing Places toilets includes:

  • a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench
  • a tracking hoist system, or mobile hoist
  • Other features include enough space for a disabled person and two carers
  • a centrally placed toilet with room both sides for a wheelchair to manoeuvre
  • a privacy screen or curtain
  • a wide tear-off paper roll to cover the adult changing bench
  • a large waste bin provided
  • and non-slip flooring.
